Colbert has never held back from criticizing Trump. Rumors swirled that CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, might have made the cut after a high-profile lawsuit settlement involving Trump.
Stephen Colbert and Donald Trump
Even Donald Trump couldn’t steal the show on Sunday night, because Stephen Colbert did. The late-night host, famous for roasting the former president and politics alike, went out with a bang as ‘The Late Show’ won its very first Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series.
The victory came just two months after CBS shocked the world by announcing the end of Colbert’s long-running program.

Colbert, however, kept the focus on the art of late-night comedy during his acceptance speech.
Standing on stage at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater, the audience cheered as Colbert thanked CBS for “giving us the privilege to be part of the late-night tradition.”
Colbert reflected on his journey, remembering his early dreams of hosting a late-night show “about love.” Over time, he realized that his program often explored “loss” too.
But he quickly added that love and loss are inseparable. “Sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it,” he said.
The Emmy win, Colbert explained, made the risk and effort worth it. “Ten years later, in September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately,” he said, “God bless America. Stay strong, be brave, and if the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.”
His last season may be on the airwaves. But Colbert’s influence, especially his fearless political commentary, will echo for years.
